Cancel from Amazon membership settings

To cancel Kindle Unlimited, use a web browser to sign in to the Amazon account that owns the membership. Open Manage your Kindle Unlimited Membership, choose Cancel membership, and continue until Amazon shows the date the membership will end. Access to borrowed Kindle Unlimited books continues until that date. Deleting the Kindle app does not cancel billing.

  1. Sign in to the Amazon account tied to Kindle Unlimited.
  2. Open your Kindle Unlimited membership or Amazon memberships area.
  3. Under Your Membership, choose Cancel membership.
  4. Follow Amazon's prompts until the membership page confirms the cancellation.
  5. Save the confirmation email or final account screen.
  6. Note the date your Kindle Unlimited access ends.

Deleting the Kindle app or removing downloaded books from a device does not cancel the membership.

If the cancellation option is missing, first check that you signed in with the email address that receives Kindle Unlimited receipts. Amazon accounts can look nearly identical when a household uses more than one login. Search your inbox for a recent Kindle Unlimited renewal, then reopen the membership page from that account.

If the Kindle or Amazon shopping app does not show the full membership controls, open Amazon in Safari or another browser. The confirmation state matters more than the device you use: the membership page should show that auto-renewal is off and name the final access date.

Check what happens to access

After canceling, check Amazon's final screen for the end date. Amazon says access continues until the next billing date. After that date, you lose access to books borrowed through Kindle Unlimited.

Amazon may also offer eligible monthly members a one-month pause. A pause is not a cancellation: it takes effect at the end of the billing cycle and then restarts automatically. Amazon says pausing is not available during a free trial or promotional period. If you do not want another automatic renewal, choose cancellation rather than pause and keep the confirmation.

Before you close the page, record:

  • the Amazon account email
  • the cancellation date
  • the final access date
  • whether it was a trial or paid membership
  • whether any other Amazon memberships are still active
  • the card or billing source used for renewal

That is especially useful if you have several Amazon services under the same login.

Separate Kindle Unlimited from Prime

Kindle Unlimited is separate from Amazon Prime and Prime Reading. Canceling one does not automatically mean every Amazon subscription or benefit has ended.

If your goal is to reduce recurring Amazon charges, also check:

  • Prime
  • Amazon Music Unlimited
  • Prime Video channels
  • Audible
  • Subscribe and Save
  • other memberships and subscriptions in your Amazon account

Cancel only the services you no longer want to keep.

Track reading and media subscriptions together

Canceling Kindle Unlimited handles one membership. Orbit helps you keep the rest visible.

Add the subscriptions you want to keep, see what renews next, and set reminders before trials and regular renewals are due. When reading, music, streaming, and cloud services sit in one list, it is easier to decide what still earns its place.

If you want one place to record the services you keep, track subscriptions manually with the price, billing source, and next renewal date.
